Wendigo | The Creature With Supernatural Hunting Abilities

Wendigo is a half-beast creature with the supernatural hunting abilities appearing in the legends of the American Indians. The most frequent cause of transformation into a Wendigo is if a person had resorted to cannibalism.

The wendigo is part of the traditional belief system of a number of Algonquin-speaking peoples, including the Ojibwe, the Saulteaux, the Cree, the Naskapi, and the Innu people. Although descriptions can vary somewhat, common to all these cultures is the view that the wendigo is a malevolent, cannibalistic, supernatur being. They were strongly associated with winter, the north, coldness, famine, and starvation. They often describe Wendigos as giants that are many times larger than human beings, a characteristic absent from myths in other Algonquian cultures. Whenever a wendigo ate another person, it would grow in proportion to the meal it had just eaten, so it could never be full. Therefore, wendigos are portrayed as simultaneously gluttonous and extremely thin due to starvation. Wendigos are said to be never satisfied after killing and consuming one person, they are constantly searching for new victims.

Wendigo infects its victims slowly, tormenting them as it takes over the mind and body. It begins with strange odors that only the victim can smell. They’ll experience severe nightmares and an unbearable burning sensation throughout their legs and feet and usually end up stripping down, running naked through the forest like a madman, plunging to their death. The few who have returned from the woods after suffering Wendigo fever have been said to come back utterly insane. [Source]

Atacama Skeleton | A 15cm Long Complete Human Body

Back in 2003, a Chilean man named Oscar Muñoz found a strange miniature skeleton called Ata, near an old church in the deserted town of La Noria, located in the Atacama Desert.

The 15cm long structure appears to be a complete human skeleton, and the primary DNA analysis indicated that it was a female human body. There are many theories about Ata’s mutation, size and shape. Most of them suggest that Ata was a human fetus born too prematurely for survival, whereas other theories suggest that the skeleton is the remains of an alien. Scientists conducted tons of studies and exams on Ata, but they still haven’t figured out the whole mystery surrounding this strange miniature skeleton.

The recent studies state that the fetus had a rare bone aging disorder, as well as other genetic mutations in genes associated with dwarfism, scoliosis, and abnormalities in the muscles and skeleton. The researchers have identified 64 unusual mutations in 7 genes linked to the skeletal system, and they note…

Hisashi Ouchi ― A Nuclear Affected Man Waited 83 Unbearable Days to Die

The Second Tokaimura Nuclear Accident conveys the nuclear disaster which occurred on September 30, 1999, resulting in two horrific nuclear deaths. It is one of the world's worst civilian nuclear radiation accidents which occurred in a uranium fuel reprocessing that was operated by the Japan Nuclear Fuel Conversion Co. Three lab workers, Hisashi Ouchi, Yutaka Yokokawa and Masato Shinohara were together preparing a measurable batch of nuclear-fuel by adding uranium solution to the precipitation tanks. Due to lack of experience, they mistakenly added an excessive quantity of uranium (about 16kg) to one of those tanks which reached to its critical condition. Eventually, a self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction started in all of sudden and the horrible accident took place.

The Manananggal | One Who Separates Itself

The Manananggal is a vampire-like mythical creature of the Philippines. It is described as scary, often hideous, usually depicted as female, and always capable of severing its upper torso and sprouting huge bat-like wings to fly into the night in search of its victims. The word 'manananggal' literally indicates "one who separates itself".

The Manananggal is said to favour preying on sleeping, pregnant women, using an elongated proboscis-like tongue to suck the hearts of fetuses, or the blood of someone who is sleeping. The severed lower torso is left standing, and is the more vulnerable of the two halves.

It is believed that sprinkling salt, smearing crushed garlic or ash on top of the standing torso is fatal to this malevolent, blood-sucking monster-witch. The upper torso then would not be able to rejoin itself and would perish by sunrise.
